Day 354 & Retrospective: self portraits

I don't often have a lie in, but when I woke up this morning I felt like staying in bed for a while, so I did. I keep my iPhone on the bedside table at night to use as an alarm clock, so I decided to play around with Hipstamatic and record my decadence.

I suppose today's shot counts as a self portrait, and as I haven't done a self portrait retrospective yet, here goes. These are my favourite selfies from the project.

  1. Hmm, see I've got a lot to do to keep with you others ... self-portraits lying in bed?! You never know what I might come up with ... when it happens don't blame me! I like them all, Helen, but that first one has a certain special quality. :)

  2. Teehee, Sue! I look forward to your in-bed shot! I'm sure you'll get there in the end. At the beginning of this project, I'd have scoffed at you if you'd suggested that I'd *ever* take a nude shot of myself, let alone post one on the internet, but this type of project encourages you to gradually push the boundaries further and further, in every direction. It's life-expanding.

  3. Helen, each of these is wonderful!!
I especially love the second one because you have such a pretty smile. How close you are to the end of your 365!!!

  4. Thanks, Lisa. The second shot is my favourite, too. It's the most honest one. To a greater or lesser extent the other shots are just poses or attempts to be arty.

  5. Your Selfies are wonderful...I read recently that we have many versions of ourselves: happy, sad, irritated... each version is a part of the our whole. I think that a series of selfies must reveil that.

  6. Thank you, Cheryl. I'd never taken a self portrait before starting this project, and they're certainly interesting to create. Do you have much experience in taking self portraits? I know a lot of photographers do 365s where they *only* take self portraits, but I couldn't do that; I'd be afraid of ending up with DID ;-)

  7. Helen-I have no experience with self portraits beyond an occasional odd snap. Honestly, they scare me. And that is why I jumped into the "selfies" challenge this new year at urbanmuser.com. Your post encouraged me that comfort can be obtained and maybe even a deeper self-understanding.
