Day 86

I hosted spinning and weaving club today. I fancied taking some portraits -- we've got some wonderful characters in the club -- but I was concerned that my photo-taking might be an irritation, so I waited until everyone had left before I got the camera out.

This shot shows part of my spinning wheel.

Does anyone have any tips on how to persuade family and friends to allow you to take their portrait and/or how to take photos of people without getting on their nerves?

  1. OH I so wish I knew the answer to your question. I would love to do more candid and other type portraits but like you a unsure of how to get people to cooperate. Wonderful shot by the way.

  2. This is a lovely shot. Didn't realize you were a spinner and weaver as well as a brilliant photographer. No tips I'm afraid but I should just go on annoying them until in time they'll probably just put up with you :-)

  3. Just keep clicking, Helen ... eventually they'll be so used to it that they'll hardly notice and won't even look up from their reading, cooking or TV.

  4. No, unfortunately I have no idea... same problem here!
But I love your photo here very much - great focus!

  5. This is a fantastic shot!
I wish I could offer some advice about photographing people, but I am the absolute worst when it comes to that. No matter how hard I try, I cannot get up the nerve to ask anyone. I almost took a course that taught just that, but I even "chickened out" on that at the last minute :-(

  6. Thanks for the advice, folks. It's reassuring to know I'm not the only person who struggles with photographing people!
